Fan Fiction: The Pokemon Adventure of a lifetime Submitted by Stephanie Lin 7/18/99
Bulbasaur: Evelyn's first Pokemon "Oh Boy! My very first Pokemon! I can't wait to start on my Pokemon Journey and get into Pokemon League!" Eveyln shouted. Then she looked fondly down at her new Pokemon, Bulbasaur. She had gladly accepted Bulbasaur as her first Pokemon because of its tough appearance but cute green bulb on its back; she knew it would be a great addition on her team and would be a strong Pokemon. She had promised Bulbasaur that he could remain out of his Poke'ball as long as he would behave. As she was about to leave, Professor Oak, the person who had given her Bulbasaur, told her that if her Pokemon didin't evolve, it was perfectly normal. Pokemon didn't always evolve because they belived that they were fine just the way they were. Evelyn promised herself to remember this, because the Professor had said that Bulbasaur would evolve on Level 16. "You and I are going to be great friends! I'm sure of it!" grinned Evelyn. Bulbasaur just shrugged and glanced down the road. He didn't care very much for his new trainer, but he was ready for danger that was just around the corner! In Evelyn's world, people had Pokemon instead of animals. Each Pokemon had special powers and sometimes evolved into a new, more powerful but similar species. Most Pokemon lived in the wild, but if you were to catch one, you would become a Pokemon Trainer- if you had the license, which were given to people at the age of ten or older. Each Pokemon was caught in a Poke'ball, a red and white sphere the size of an apple, but the Pokemon usually had to be weakened by another Pokemon in order to catch it. So far, the Pokemon number known was 151, but any people were pretty sure that there were more…
Evelyn had just turned ten, and had just received her Pokemon Trainer's License. Ash Ketchum, her next door neighbor, Gary Oak, who lived across the street, and another kid was going to get their Pokemon Licenses too, but Evelyn was the first. After receiving her first plant Pokemon, Bulbasaur, she had been handed five Poke'balls and a Poke'dex to help her on her journey. Racing outside, she grabbed her backpack and raced down the road, with her Bulbasaur close by. Suddenly, Bulbasaur paused and sniffed the air. " What's the matter Bulbasaur? Is something wrong?" asked Evelyn. " Is there a new Pokemon that I can catch?" Bulbasaur grunted in reply, then shouted, " Bulbasaur! Bulba! Saur!" and leaped into the grass. There, he found a wild Evee! It was very lively, with black shiny eyes and a fox-like expression. It cocked it's head and twitched it's long ears. . " Wow! An Evee!" cried Evelyn in excitement,"Poke'dex, give me the stats on this Pokemon!" "Evee, a evolution Pokemon. Evee can transform to any of these three Pokemon, depending on the stone: Water Stone, Vaporeon, Thunder Stone, Jolteon, and Fire Stone, Flareon." Explained Dexter. "Oh…really? Alright, Bulbasaur! We've gotta catch it!"cried Evelyn, then paused. "I don't even know what attacks Bulbasaur has! Oh well, I'll just take a wild guess." Continuing on, Evelyn yelled, "Use your Leech Seed attack! Drain its energy away!" " Bulbasaur!" shouted Bulbasaur as it shot out a seed from the top of its bulb. The seed flew onto Evee and sprouted, wrapping thousands on vines around Evee, sucking its energy away. When the Evee was unconscious, Evelyn threw her first Poke'ball. "Poke'ball, GO!" she shouted. The throw was a successful one, and Evee was captured. "Alright! GREAT Job Bulbasaur! Now that I've got you and Evee, I can do just about anything!" said Evelyn. Bulbasaur grinned. "Bulba! Saur!" *******************************************************************
"Evee, and Evolution Pokemon" "Hmmm, now what can and Evee do? I don't want to evolve it, though I do know that Vaporeon or Jolteon would be my best bet if I were to evolve Evee." Thought Evelyn. "What moves does my Evee have?" Evelyn consulted Dexter. " Dexter, what are Evee's attacks? Please follow with some of Bulbasaur's attacks." "Evee, an evolution Pokemon. Evee's attacks include, Tackle, Sand Attack, Quick Attack at Level 27, Tail Whip at 31, Bite at 37, then Take Down at 45. Bulbasaur, the grass Pokemon. It's attacks include: Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed. At Level 13, Bulbasaur learns Vine Whip, then Poison Powder at 20. Razor Leaf at 27, and Growth at 34. Sleep Powder at 41, and Solar Beam at 48 to finish Bulbasaur's attacks." The mini computer said. "I wonder what Level my Evee is at. I guess I could always try it out in a Pokemon Battle, or get it to show me it's moves. Now I know that my Bulbasaur is also at least at Level 7. That's pretty good!" said Evelyn to herself. She called her Bulbasaur over and released Evee from it's Poke'ball. " I'd like to know what Level you guys are at, so I'm going to ask you to do some attacks that you are to do." She explained to both Pokemon. " I hope you are comfortable with this!" " Evui!" chirped Evee. It nodded its head and looked eager to start. " Bulbasaur…" said Bulbasaur, pacing around. He was ready for anything. "Great! Lets' start out with Evee." Said Evelyn. "Evee, do your Quick attack!" "Ui!" shouted Evee as it raced across the field, scaring the Rattata and Pidgey pokemon away. "Good Job Evee! Now do your Tail Whip!" commanded Evelyn. At this command, Evee paused. It didn't know Tail Whip yet. It looked defeated and sad. Evelyn comforted Evee by saying that it was perfectly okay that it didn't know it's next move yet. Evelyn then called for Bulbasaur, telling it to do Vine Whip. Bulbasaur proudly extended two long vines from its bulb and used them to cut through trees and whip the nearby plants to shreds. "Impressive, Bulbasaur! Now try Razor Leaf attack!" cried Evelyn, excited that her Bulbasaur knew such powerful moves. Bulbasaur's razor leaf proved to be very powerful, and nearly scared the wits out of Evee. After a strong sprinkle of Poison Powder, Evelyn concluded that Evee and Bulbasaur were at the same Level of 27. Bulbasaur could learn Growth as it's next move and Evee could learn Tail Whip. Picking up her backpack and returning Evee to it's Poke'ball, Evelyn continued on her way. She turned to Bulbasaur. 'Bulbasaur, isn't It a great day to start my Pokemon Journey? Everything is going right for me, and now I've got two strong Pokemon! I wonder what Pokemon I'll catch next…" Overhead, a Pidgey flew by. Evelyn raised her eyebrows at Bulbasar. She asked whether it would like to take on Pidgey, or should she send Evee? Bulbasaur said that it would take on the bird Pokemon. Poke'dex: Dexter, the mini Pokemon computer
Bulbasaur prepared itself for battle. Evelyn commanded Bulbasaur to do Poison Powder, but it was blown away with a strong Gust attack. Biting her lip, Evelyn told Bulbasaur to do the Vine Whip attack. This time, it worked, and now Evelyn had a Level 26 Pidgey in her hands. Although Pidgey was to have evolved at Level 18, it had forced itself to stop evolving into Pidgeotto because it was happy the way it was. After congratulating herself and Bulbasaur, Evelyn continued on her way. After a few battles with bug catchers in the area, Evelyn made her way out of her hometown of Pallet and past the Viridian Forest, and into Pewter City. After healing her Pokemon in the Pokemon Center, Evelyn walked onwards until the city border. As she was about to continue out of Pewter, a young boy stopped her. "Hey! You seem like a tough opponent when it comes to Pokemon Battling! Have you taken on Brock yet?" he asked. "What buisness do I have with him?" asked Evelyn. "Well, have you ever thought about entering Pokemon League and being the Ultimate Pokemon Master?" the boy said. "Uh, er, well….Yeah! But what does Brock have to do with me?" Evelyn asked. "Brock is a gym trainer, so he's much tougher than most local trainers. To get into Pokemon League, you need each gym trainers' badge as proof you are qualified to enter Pokemon League." The boy answered. "So you mean I have to beat each gym trainer in each town, defeat them, and get their badges so I can enter Pokemon League?" asked Evelyn. "Yup! I think there are seven gym trainers in all. As you know, the Pokemon League trainers are very, very, hard. After you beat them, you are then given the title of Pokemon Master. The Gym Leader's can help your Pokemon Level up and improve your knowledge on Pokemon and Pokemon Strategy. After each defeat, the gym leader's will award you with their badges. So, are you going to take Brock on? He specializes in Rock Pokemon by the way…" the boy said. "You know, I think I will take on Brock! My Pokemon are all fit and ready!" Evelyn smiled to herself. This was going to be a piece of cake! ********************************************************************
Geodude, one of Brock's Pokemon
"Who goes there?" asked Brock as the door to his gym slowly creaked open. "Me, Evelyn from the Town of Pallet! I've come to take you on and get a Boulder Badge!" "All right. One Pokemon for each of us. I choose Onix! Poke'ball, go!" A huge Onix sprang out of the Poke'ball. Evelyn was shocked. She analyzed it on Dexter. "Onix, a rock Pokemon. One of the heaviest Pokemon in the world, Onix's Bind attack can sometimes crush the enemy." Dexter explained. "okay…umm, go Bulbasaur! Razor Leaf attack! We'll show 'em size doesn't matter!" cried Evelyn. "Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur as he launched his Razor Leaf attack. The Onix did not like this one bit. Some parts of it's rock hard body were chipped off, and it groaned and roared. After Poisoning it with Poison Powder, Bulbasaur finished it off with Tackle attack. "Good, but not good enough!" shouted Brock. " Go, Geodude!" Geodude appeared out of it's Poke'ball. Evelyn didn't need Dexter this time. She released her Evee. Maybe if it took on a strong opponent, it could Level up to get Tail Whip! "All Right Evee, do your Quick Attack!" shouted Evelyn. Though this attack wounded Geodude, it wasn't enough. Geodude fought back by hardening it's skin with Defense Curl. Evelyn was frustrated. "Evee, do your sand attack! Blind the enemy!" Evelyn shouted. Waves of sand rose high into the air. Geodude couldn't see! Evelyn then commanded Evee to finish it off with Tackle. This attack was very successful, and Evee learned Tail Whip in a matter of seconds. Brock admitted defeat, and the next thing she knew, Evelyn had gained a Boulder Badge! Bulbasaur had grown by three levels, and Evee by four. Beating the local trainers nearby was a simple task, and Evelyn finally got to Mount. Moon. Here, it was dark and gloomy, and Evelyn couldn't help but feel a little scared. Suddnely, it appeared that she wasn't alone in here. Mysterious figures in black, who called themselves Team Rocket, challenged her to battle them, with strange Pokemon like Ekans, Koffing, Weezing, Arbok, and Raticate. It seemed like they were looking for fossils in Mount. Moon and sell them for cash. Evelyn was sure they were up to no good, but she made no comment. On the way out, Evelyn caught an adorable Clefairy at Level 31. Evelyn was very happy with her latest findings. Next stop, Cerulean City! ********************************************************************
Entering Cerulean was a piece of cake, and Evelyn decided to rest up while she was there. Bulbasaur enjoyed staying in the Pokemon Center, where he sat by the electronically- run waterfall and admired the brightly colored horsea, seaking, and goldeen water pokemon. Evee pranced about in the fields outside. Evelyn decided to meet the famous Poke'maniac, Bill. He had long stopped his journey as a Pokemon trainer and had gone into the buisness of studying rare Pokemon. He was the one who invented Poke'dex! Evelyn had to first cross a bridge to reach Bill. As she took her first step, a young girl stopped her. "This is Nugget Bridge. If you can beat all of us five trainers positioned on the bridge, you get a prize! You can only cross the bridge this way, so if you don't want to try us, then beat it!" "Fine! I except your challenge!" Evelyn shot back, angry that the girl was so stuck-up and impolite. "Very well! My name is Lass, and I'll make sure that you don't win! Meowth, go!" Lass shouted. "Fine! The Poke'mon I choose is: Pidgey!" Evelyn cried out and she threw the Poke'ball. "All Right Meowth, use PAY DAY attack! Swipe the money off that dopey trainer and make sure you do the atttack double on that stupid bird!" Lass shouted. "Dopey, am I? Pidgey, let's show 'em that you aren't stupid! Quick Attack!" Eveyln commanded. Lass's Meowth swiped $20 off Evelyn and used it's pay day scratch to hurt Pidgey. Fortunately, Pidgey dodged this terrible attack and did Quick Attack, knocking Meowth to the ground. Meowth then did Scratch attack, but missed, giving Pidgey a chance to do Gust, blowing the enemy away. Evelyn won the battle and proudly picked up her $20 that rightfully belonged to her and received a large amount of $30 from the now-unhappy Lass. Pidgey grew one Level up. Suddenly, it started glowing. It was evolving! "Oh Pidgey, are you evolving because of me?" cried Evelyn. " Thank you! I know you enjoyed being a wild Pidgey, but now that you are evolving into Pidgeotto, we'll be even stronger! Thank you so much!" "Pidgey…otto!" cried Pidgey as it stretched out it's wings to turn into Pidgeotto. "Pidgeotto, you are the best!" Evelyn told her bird Pokemon. She turned to her other Pokemon and grinned. "But don't worry, I still like you all too." Evelyn's second opponent was a young Bug Catcher. He sneered and said, "I'm next! Getting tired? I specialize in Bug Pokemon, and I'll be sure to win! Go, Caterpie!" "That's easy. Bird gets bug, so… I choose you! Pidgeotto!" Cried Evelyn. "So, you wanna play hard ball, eh? Caterpie, String Shot!" commanded Bug Catcher. Caterpie spat a strong string of silk from it's mouth and brought Pidgeotto down by wrapping it up with it's silk. Evelyn was dumbfounded; that was her first defeat, and with a evolved Pokemon! "That's alright Pidgeotto, you can try again next time!" said Evelyn sadly. "But now, I choose you, Bulbasaur!" "Bulbasaur!" cried Bulbasaur. " Bulbasaur, do Growl attack! Bring it's attack down!!" commanded Evelyn. After the growl, Evelyn told Bulbasaur to do Poison Powder to get rid of the Bug Pokemon. This was extremely successful, and Bulbasaur learned Growth after another battle with a Weedle. Evelyn decided to go back to the Poke'Center to heal her Pokemon. ***********************************************************
Nurse Joy "Nurse Joy, could you please heal my Pokemon for me?" asked Evelyn. "Right away!" smiled Nurse Joy. " Chansey? Please take Evelyn's Poke'balls and place them in the healing chamber!" "Chansey!" three cute pinkish Pokemon with eggs in their pouches stepped into the room. One of them walked in front of Evelyn and held out it's hands (paws? J ) for Evelyn's Poke'balls. "Oh. Here you go!" Evelyn said, handing her Poke'balls to the Chansey. " Nurse Joy, where did you get Chansey? I've heard that it brings the trainer good luck when you have one, and I was thinking of catching a Chansey!" "Oh, every Poke'Center always has a Chansey or two, because of their gentle nature and their special healing moves. This Chansey has been here for a long time and has helped me with the patients for a while. I'd hate to part with it, but I have a Poke'mon in the back that you might like." Said Joy. "Sure! What is it?" asked Evelyn curiously. "You'll see! Wait here while I get it!" said Nurse Joy. After a while, Nurse Joy came out of the back room and handed Evelyn a Poke'ball. Evelyn released the Poke'mon from it's Poke'ball. "Charmander, Charmander!" shouted the fire Pokemon. It was in perfect health and the fire at the tip of it's tail was burning brightly. It's red skin glowed, and the dino-like Pokemon came up to Bulbasaur and hugged it. Bulbasaur grunted but smiled. "Now isn't that cute?" smiled Evelyn. "Joy, are you sure you want me to take this Charmander? It seems happy here." "No, I'm sure it would like the life of traveling around with a trainer like you. It was left here in it's Poke'ball a few weeks ago in bad shape, but I nursed it back to health. The trainer has never come back for it. Charmander is very friendly, and I'm sure it would be a nice addition to your team." "Thanks Nurse Joy! I'll take good care of Charmander!" said Evelyn. "But wait! Do you happen to know what Level Charmander is on?" "Oh, This Charmander is on Level 33. In a few more Levels, it will learn Flame thrower!" replied Nurse Joy. "Thanks! I'll be going now!" said Evelyn. "Clefairy, Metronome!" "Charmander, Slash attack!" "Pidgeotto, Whirlwind!" "Bulbasaur, Razor Leaf!" "Evee, Sand Attack!" Evelyn finally beat all the trainers on the bridge, and her Pokemon had gone up by at least one Level. Unfortunately, her Pidgeotto was beginning to ignore orders because she didn't have enough badges. See, the more badges you got, the more Pokemon would obey you. If you didn't have any badges, Pokemon wouldn't even listen to you in battle. Evelyn only had the boulder Badge, but that just wasn't enough for Pidgeotto. So, Evelyn decided to challenge the trainer in Cerulean City. But, not before another one of those mysterious figures in black came and challenged her. " Congratulations! You have beaten all of the trainers on Nugget Bridge! Here is your prize!" said the man. "Uh, thanks!" said Evelyn as she was handed a small piece of gold. She didn't really need it anyway; she could always sell it so she could buy more Potions for her Pokemon. "Say, would you like to join our gang? It's called Team Rocket, and it's run by our really cool Boss, Giovanni. He thinks you are qualified enough to join. We specialize in using Pokemon for bad purposes. So, do you want to?" "No Way! I would never do anything with Pokemon that makes people suffer! I have to continue on being a Pokemon Master!" shouted Evelyn. "Well, I see you need some convincing! " laughed the man evilly. "Pokemon Battle time! Go, Raticate!" "Uh oh! This was unexpected! Alright then, Charmander go! Rage attack, now!" Charmander continued fighting again and again, biting and scratching Raticate until it's fur was nearly gone and it was near to tears. "Oh, Raticate, return! Go Ekans!" shouted the man clad in black. " This should be easy….Bulbasaur, go! Power up with Growth attack, then use Vine Whip!" "Bulbasaur!" cried Bulbasaur as he extended his vines and wrapped them around Ekans. But Ekans had other ideas. It did glare attack! Bulbasaur was paralyzed! "Oh no! Bulbasaur! No matter! I've got Paralyzed Heal! One spray and you'll be good as new!" said Evelyn. She reached inside her backpack and pulled out her first aid box. After a few sprays of Paralyzed Heal, Bulbasaur was back in action. He threw Ekans up and down with the vines that were wrapped tightly around it. The snake Pokemon fainted after a while, so the evil trainer called it back and sent out Golbat! "Gol,Bat!" said the Golbat. It did Bite attack on the Evee that Evelyn had sent out. Evee winced and licked it's wound. Then, it did Quick Attack, then Tail Whip to bring down Golbat's defense. After a tackle attack, Evelyn had won the battle and Evee grew another level. **************************************************************
Charmander, Evelyn's fourth Pokemon, given by Nurse Joy After that win, Evelyn reached a large open field. She released all of her Pokemon so they could rest up and have some food and water. After some research and observation, Evelyn concluded her Pokemon's Levels: Bulbasaur: 36 Evee: 34 Pidgeotto: 35 Clefairy: 35 Charmander: 35 "None of my Pokemon want to evolve, other than Pidgey, who was already evolved into Pidgeotto. That's perfectly okay though…. Because I'm happy with them just the way they are! Besides, I've heard that Pokemon become completely different Pokemon after they evolve. " Evelyn thought. Continuing forward, Evelyn defeated the local trainers and won almost every match, and got closer every time to Bill. When she finally reached his sea cottage, there was a Pokemon inside. It appeared to me a Seel. "Oh Wow! A Seel! It's my lucky day! If I can catch this Pokemon, it'll be my first water Pokemon!" thought Evelyn. She hurried inside to catch the Pokemon, but suddenly, it spoke! "Wait! I'm not a Pokemon, I'm a human! Hey, don't give me that skeptical look! This is about the third time I've accidentally turned myself into a Pokemon with my switch-your-body-into-a-pokemon machine! Please help me turn back!" said the "pokemon." "I need proof! How come you could turn back before?" asked Evelyn. "Thankfully, Pokemon Trainers who happened to pass nearby helped me change back! Here, I'll give you something in return!" said the Seel. "Fine. What do I do?" asked Evelyn. "Activate the body-switching machine by pressing the "ENTER" key. I'll be waiting for you in the machine!" said the water Pokemon. After turning the Seel back into a human, the person introduced himself as Bill. He gave her an SS Anne ticket. "I was given five free tickets for my hard work and research on Pokemon for the cruise ship, SS Anne, but I just can't stand fancy do's. Why don't you go instead of me? Many Pokemon trainers are boarding the ship, and you might just learn more about Pokemon!" explained Bill. "Oh, thanks!" said Evelyn. As she was about to leave, Bill told her to take a look on his PC. He stored some information on some rare Pokemon, and he thought he might need it for her Poke'dex. After saying good-bye, Evelyn returned to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center. She reported to Nurse Joy that Charmander was doing fine, and that it was very happy. Healing her Pokemon so that they were ready for another unexpected battle, Evelyn ran to the Pokemon Gym. Inside, she saw beautiful aquariums and a large pool. She saw three gorgeous girls talking to a redhead. "Misty, are you sure you want to leave? We might need you if we don't have anymore Pokemon to battle with!" said the blonde girl. "I want to leave! I'm tired of being the runt of the so-called "Sensational Sisters! When I come back, I'll be the ultimate Pokemon Master!" said the redhead, probably Misty. "Well, if you want to leave, so be it! There are only THREE sensational sisters, and one loser, anyway!" said a girl with black hair. "Hey! Who are you?" asked the third girl with short hair. "Uh, Me? Um, well, I'm Evelyn from the town of Pallet, and I've come to challenge this gym's Gym leader!" replied Evelyn. "Do you know where I can find him?" The Blondie smiled. "Were the gym trainers here! We're world famous!" "Huh? You guys are the gym trainers?" asked Evelyn, clearly confused. "You can refer to us guys as girls! " said the black-haired girl. "We don't really battle, we just make ourselves beautiful most of the time. As for her," she said, pointing to Misty, "She's the more serious gym trainer around here. We three sensationally pretty sisters are just here for back-up. Besides, we are tired of battling people who keep beating us. If you really want to challenge us, challenge our sister, Misty!" "Fine! Misty, I challenge you to a Pokemon Battle!" she told Misty. "Hmph, Fine! You'll be sorry you ever saw this face!" Misty replied. ************************************************************************ Chapter 7: The loss and the win
Misty, Gym Trainer "Three Pokemon for each of us!" shouted Misty. "Agreed?" "Agreed! Charmander, go!" Evelyn threw the Poke'ball. "Bulbasaur!" cried Bulbasaur. He wouldn't let Evelyn do it. "Bulbasaur! What's wrong?" asked Evelyn. "Bulba, Saur. Bulbasaur Bulbasaur! Saur, Bulba!" said Bulbasaur. Slowly, Evelyn found that fire was weak against water, and that Bulbasaur wanted to battle instead. She agreed, and Bulbsaur ran over to Evelyn's side for the match. "Bulbsaur, Go! Poison Powder!" shouted Evelyn. "Goldeen, go! Use your horn attack!" commanded Misty. Bulbasaur doged the attack and used Poison Powder. Unfortunately, goldeen washed it off by diving underwater, so Evelyn asked Bulbasaur to restrain Goldeen with Vine Whip, then use Razor Leaf. This move proved to be successful, and Misty called back Goldeen and sent out Staryu. "Bulbasaur, return! I choose you, Clefairy!" shouted Evelyn. "Staryu, Swift attack!" cried Misty. "Clefairy, Sing!" Evelyn said. "Cle…fairy…… Clefairy….." sand Clefairy, lulling Staryu to sleep. "All right! Clefairy, good job! Finish it off with Pound!" commanded Evelyn. "Oh…!!! Staryu, return! Starmie! GO!" shouted Misty. "This is going to be a piece of cake! Pidgeotto, go!" said Evelyn. Pidgeotto disobeyed orders when Evelyn said to do Gust, instead, it did Wing attack! But, Starmie was hurt any way, and Evelyn won the match. "Oh, You! Fine, you won, so what?! I give you the Cascade Badge for your win. Now leave me alone!" said Misty, shoving the badge into Evelyn's hand. She stormed off through the back door, leaving Evelyn astounded and alone. "Jeez, what's her problem? Oh well! I've got my second badge! Pidgeotto, Gust!" said Evelyn, trying the bird Pokemon. Pidgeotto obeyed. In doing so, the water in the swimming pool rippled and shook, then large waves rose up and down. Suddenly, a Squirtle bounded out of the water and shook. It rubbed it's cute blue head and grinned. "Squirtle!" it greeted Evelyn. Bulbasaur wasn't so sure. It circled Squirtle suspiciously. Then, satisfied, returned next to Evelyn. The Squirtle trotted up next to Pidgeotto and pointed to it's back. It wanted a shell rub! Pidgeotto groaned. It was tired after the battle and couldn't do much. Squirtle smiled and squirted water on Pidgeotto, making it wet and soggy. Pidgeotto got mad. It did Whirlwind attack on Squirtle, but Squirtle dived into the pool just in time. "Pidgeotto! The Squirtle was just trying to help you! Return!" commanded Evelyn. Pidgeotto looked hurt. It flew out the window, breaking the glass. "Pidgoooooooooo!" it cried out sadly. "Oh darn it. I've hurt Pidgeotto's feelings. Why don't I ever shut my mouth?" thought Evelyn. The Squirtle jumped out of the pool again and tugged on Evelyn's shorts. "Squirtle? Squirtle Squirt Squirt." It said. It wanted to make up for Pidgeotto's leaving and wanted to join Evelyn on her Pokemon Journey! "Fine Squirtle. I'm sure you would be an excellent addition to my team. I only wish Pidgeotto were here to enjoy it with me." Evelyn sighed, looking out the broken window. ************************************************************************
Dratini, Roger's second but favorite Pokemon Entering Vermilion City was an easy task, and Evelyn again rested her Pokemon at the Poke'Center. She was again greeted by Nurse Joy. " Nurse Joy? How did you get here so quick?" asked Evelyn. "Oh, you must have met my sister, Nurse Joy of Cerulean! Our whole family was made up of girls, and we are all named Joy! I'm pretty sure this is the same with Officer Jenny and her family. Have you met her? She's really nice!" replied Joy. "Oh No, but I'll be sure to drop by her office when I have the time!" said Evelyn thoughtfully. "Where is the next gym?" "Oh, go down the road and turn to your left. Keep going in that direction until you get to the docks. Then turn right. The gym should be straight ahead!" Joy answered. "Oh, and by the way, do you happen to have a SS Anne ticket?" "Oh, yeah! I got it from Bill, the guy who lives uphill from here." Replied Evelyn. "What about it?" "It just happens that the SS Anne docks at our dock at this time of year," Joy explained. "You can go on down and enjoy yourself! The boat takes you to Porta Vista!" "Great! As soon as I beat the gym leader, I can ride the boat to Porta Vista!" said Evelyn excitedly. "Hmm.." smiled Nurse Joy, "Here are some extra Potions you can use on your Pokemon on your way!" Joy handed new bottles of Pokemon Healing Potion to Evelyn. "Gee, thanks! Uh, do I have to pay for this?" asked Evelyn. "Oh no! At this Poke'Center, healing and medications are free. Only operations or serious burns or cuts are charged for money." Joy explained. "Great! Thanks for everything, Joy! I'll be leaving now!" cried Evelyn as she ran out the sliding glass door. As Evelyn continued outside, she accidently bumped into a young boy. "Oh, I'm sorry! I wasn't watching where I was going!" explained Evelyn. "That's okay. It seemed like you were in a hurry anyway." He replied. "Where are you heading?" "Oh, I'm on my way to battle the gym leader here! After I'm done, I'll board the SS Anne, that Cruise ship for Pokemon Trainers. I heard it's going to Porta Vista, and from there I'll be heading to Celadon City!" Evelyn replied. "Hey! I was heading there too! My name is Roger, Roger T. What's yours?" "Oh, I'm Evelyn from the town of Pallet. I'm traveling to become the world's greatest Pokemon Master!" declared Evelyn. "Do you want to travel together?" asked Roger. "Sure! Meet my Bulbasaur. He's really friendly." Said Evelyn. "Hi Bulbasaur!" said Roger. "Meet my Dratini!" "Dratini!" cried the Dratini as it was released from it's Poke'ball. "Bulbasaur." Growled Bulbasaur. It had to get used to this dragon/water type Pokemon. "Oh, it's so cute! I thought that these were mythical Pokemon!" Evelyn said. "It was, until scientists finally spotted a few near a small bay in the north." Roger explained. "I was lucky to catch one for myself one day while fishing." "Wow! I got my Bulbasaur from Professor Oak." Evelyn said. "It's a really great Pokemon. I've also got Clefairy, Charmander, Squirtle, and an Evee. I lost my Pidgeotto." Just the thought of losing Pidgeotto made Evelyn wish she never battled Misty. "That's a great team! Other than Dratini, I have Vaporeon and Seaking! So, you can tell I specialize in Water Pokemon. The people of Viridian City adore water Pokemon, so of course, I do too. I'm not traveling for Pokemon Badges though, I'm traveling to catch all known water Pokemon in the world!" cried Roger. He released all of his Pokemon into the water so that Evelyn could see them clearer. Vaporeon jumped out of it's Poke'ball with a "Vapor!" It flashed it's fish-like tail and kicked it's hind legs to get near to shore. It shook it's rubbery body and the fins on it's turquoise head glittered in the sun. When the second Poke'ball opened, a Seaking leaped out. This Pokemon, as Evelyn observed, looked like an over-sized goldfish, but with two small fangs and a colorfully striped body of black and red. On it's head was a long and pointy horn. "Sea, king!" it chanted over and over as it jumped up and down through the water. Nearby, Dratini swam gracefully and did lively jumps and twirls in the air. It had two large, fin-like ears, but it was cute and comaflouged clevery into it's natural habitat. It's skin was sky-clue, and It's black eyes glittered with intelligence. After introducing their Pokemon to one another, Roger said that they ought to be going. "Wait, you are only boarding SS Anne though, right?" asked Evelyn. "Right. But don't worry, I'll come with you to Lt. Surge's gym, then we'll board the SS Anne. It doesn't leave in another few hours anyway." Roger reassured her. "The gym leader here is a guy called Lt. Surge? Never heard of him. Do you happen to know what he specializes in?" asked Evelyn. "I'm not sure, but I heard that in the wars that he was fighting in, he always counted on his Pikachu to help him out of a jam. But then, for some weird reason, he evolved it with the Thunder Stone to Raichu! So, Maybe he likes electric Pokemon!" replied Roger. "Thanks for the update, but now, according to my watch, we only have 2 hours left to battle! What if I lose? Hurry up! Let's get going!" cried Evelyn. She couldn't wait to start! Lt. Surge's gym was a large and frightening one, adorned with lightning bolts and images of a bloody war. Evelyn bravely stepped inside with Bulbasaur at her side. Roger followed quietly. He had released his Vaporeon for safety. They peered around. "Lt. Surge?! I'm Evelyn from the Town of Pallet, and I've come to challenge you!" Evelyn shouted into the darkness. "Rai…chu…Rai…chu!" a large Raichu leaped out of the gloom. Bulbasaur circled the Raichu while Vaporeon looked on. Bulbasaur looked unsure of this place. It smelled dark, musty, and dangerous. Who knew who or what was hiding in those shadows? Suddenly, sudden movement! A steady beat of heavy boots across the floor was heard. A man with spiky blond hair stepped out beside his Raichu. "I heard ya loud and clear…" he growled. "You want the Thunder Badge? You gotta beat me for it!"
Pikachu, Lt. Surge's first Pokemon "Fine!" Evelyn shot back, trying not to sound scared. "How many Pokemon?" "Unlimited number! Take your best shot!" barked Lt. Surge. "I choose you! Raichu! Thundershock!" "Evee, go! Sand Attack!" commanded Evelyn, and released Evee from it's Poke'ball. "Evui!" cried Evee as it did San Attack. Large amounts of sand rose high in the air. Raichu rubbed it's eyes in frustration. Suddenly, it launched a powerful thunder shock! Evee fainted at the first spark. "Oh….!! Charmander, I choose you! Flamethrower!" said Evelyn. She guessed that by now, Charmander should know Flamethrower attack. She was right on the money. Charmander's flamethrower burnt Raichu! It shot flame after flame of this powerful attack. But, Raichu may have been burnt, but it hadn't fainted yet. It did Body Slam! "Char!" Charmander cried in pain as the Raichu smashed it's body on top of his. "Char! Char Char Char! Charmander!" cried the poor fire Pokemon. Evelyn couldn't stand to see her Pokemon treated this way. "Charmander, return!" Evelyn called Charmander back. Bulbasaur tugged on Evelyn's shorts gently. It wanted to battle again! "No Bulbsaur.I can't always depend on you for winning battles. You can battle in the next one."Evelyn explained gently. "For now, I choose Clefairy!" said Evelyn. "Sing attack!" "Cle..fairrrrry…." sang Clefairy gently. It's melody washed over Raichu, and it fell over, asleep. "Good job, Clefairy! Now, Metronome!" commanded Evelyn. Clefairy blew Raichu sky-high! In the end, Evelyn won the battle. After receiving her Thunder Badge, Evelyn continued with Roger to the docks. After showing their tickets, Evelyn and her companions boarded the elegant ship. Everywhere you looked, there were Pokemon trainers showing off their Pokemon. "Look at my Squirtle's hard shell! It's perfectly healthy!" one trainer said to another. "Oh yeah? Check out my Charmander's flame at the end of it's tail! It's so big and bright and warm! It's way healthier than any other Pokemon!" the other trainer said. "My Squirtle and Charmander are way better than theirs." Evelyn muttered to herself. "Hey, don't get too competitive!" smiled Roger." There are some Pokemon trainers out there who can train Pokemon to their very best!" "yeah, I guess." Replied Evelyn. "Hey, you there! Want to buy a Magicarp?" shouted a salseman at a counter He was standing next to an aquarium with a strange looking fish. "Is this Pokemon a water type?" asked Roger. "Oh, yes! It is a very special Pokemon that will bring it's trainer lots of money! Each Magikarp lays 1,000 eggs! Each one of those eggs lays 1,000 more… you can then sell those Magikarp for millions of dollars!" declared the salseman. "Eh..? No, I'm not in it for the money, just the type." Roger explained. "How much?" "He heh. Since you look like such a nice young boy, I'll give it to you for $50!" the man said. "Ugh…that's a lot…I only have $70…." Roger grumbled. "Roger, that Pokemon looks like no good! Don't buy it! Save your money for some potions or medicine for your Pokemon, or at least save it for a smarter looking Pokemon! Look at that thing! It looks so stupid and dumb. I bet you could smack it in the face and it still would look that clueless!" whispered Evelyn. "But it's a water type!" Roger replied. "Here, take a look at Poke'dex. Maybe it can clear things up for you!" Evelyn said. "Magikarp, a fish/water type Pokemon. It is very weak and is considered stupid. Though it evolves into a powerful dragon Pokemon at Level 20, it is extremely hard to make it obey and is, as most trainers say, 'a pathetic pokemon'. This Pokemon is not recommended for trainers who have little patience. If you do wish to train one, be sure to treat it with kindness, for once it evolves into the mighty Gyrados, it will then rebel and treat you unkindly. It's attacks include Splash, an attack that does not affect the enemy. At 15, this Pokemon learns Tackle." Poke'dex explained. "Hmmmm. It evolves into a powerful Poke'mon, but it sucks in battle. I'll think about it." Roger said to the salseclerk. Evelyn then saw a Poke'mon stand that caught her eye. It sold all sorts of Pokemon! And, at a cheap price! She called Roger over to look. "Wow! There are bird Pokemon, Water Pokemon, Plant Pokemon, Fire Pokemon… all kinds of Pokemon!" exclaimed Evelyn. While Roger looked at the water Pokemon, Evelyn interested herself in the bird Pokemon in the cages. For some reason, she hoped that maybe she could find a Pidgeotto that could be similar to her old one; as loyal and obedient as the old one. But no Pidgeotto was found. As she was about to wander away, she tripped over a cloth-covered cage. She picked it up and lifted up a tiny corner of the cloth. Inside was a Pidgeotto! She asked the seller why the Pidgeotto wasn't with the other bird Pokemon, and why it's cage was covered with a piece of cloth. "Oh, that one. See, I catch all of my Pokemon in the wild and sell them. Well, I just happened to see this Pidgeotto on a tree branch, One of it's eyes seemed to be going blind, and a wing was broken. I brought it home and healed it's wing back, but it was hard to train and take care of. Besides, it can't come in contact with light because of its' eye. I never had the time to take it to the Poke'Center, and I had run out of Potions and such. And if you're' where I live, you ain't got no neighbors. So, I decided to sell this bird at half the usual price on the SS Anne. What do you know? No one wants this bird! I just want to get rid of it, for pete's sake! I'll even give you the Poke'ball for free!" the man said. Evelyn looked at the bird in the cage. She brought it to a darker corner, with permission from the seller. It looked sad and bedraggled. Evelyn wasn't sure if it was her original Pidgeotto, but it would be a great addition to her team, just the same. Besides, it would remind her of the good old days with her old one. She went back to the counter. "I'll take it!" she said.
Pidgeotto, Evelyn's newest addition..? "You'll take it?" asked the man, out of pure surprise. :Yeah! How much?" asked Evelyn, bracing herself for the great expense of the Pokemon. "It's free." Sighed the man. "I've had such trouble selling it I might as well give it away!" "Thanks! I'll take good care if it!" grinned Evelyn. She signaled to Roger that she was ready to go. Then, she smiled. By his side, Roger had a small Pokemon: a Poliwag. "Poliwag was just such a cute and interesting Pokemon that I had to get it!" exclaimed Roger. The Poliwag seemed to have a hard time walking around, but that was only because it was still a tadpole and wasn't used to it's newly grown legs. It resembled a baby frog, and had a long blue tail and a circular line that went around and around on it's belly. Evelyn guessed that was for it's hypnosis attack, a powerful attack that put it's opponents to sleep. Poliwag was all blue, except for it's belly, which was white. It was very small, but it seemed happy to be with it's new trainer. "What did you get?" asked Roger. " A dead bird Pokemon." Joked Evelyn. "No, really?" asked Roger, playing along. Then, Evelyn grew serious. "I think this Pidgeotto used to be the one I had. I'm hoping to take care of it's blind eye and help it be happy again. It can't even come in contact with light!" She exclaimed. "Wow. It could be!" said Roger thoughtfully. "Let's take it to the ship's Pokemon Center and see what we can find!" As they walked to the center, with Evelyn clutching her Pidgeotto's cage, and Roger with his Poliwag in his arms. Bulbasaur and Vaporeon hopped behind. Evelyn stepped up to the counter, "Nurse Joy, please help my Pidgeotto!" "Oh dear, it looks like it's in bad shape! What went wrong?" asked Joy. Evelyn explained the whole incident. "That's too bad. Were going to have to work on its' eye in low light. And, I'm afraid the salesman didn't do that good of a job taking care of it's broken wings. And if you look closely, there are scratches." Nurse Joy said sadly after examining the Pidgeotto closely under the cloth. "Wings? The man said that only one wing was broken! I didn't realize there were two!" Evelyn cried out. "Well, I'm going to have to place this one in the critical care unit!" Joy turned toward the computer. "I need a emergency care box ready for a bird Pokemon, STAT!" then, calling for her Chansey, she told them to gently take the Pidgeotto and place it in it's critical care box, where every half-hour, a liquid would drip into Pidgeotto's eye until it got better. It's wings would be wrapped in a cast, and when it 's wings healed, they would be wrapped in clean linen to cast away any harmful bacteria that might get into the scratches. "Thank you, Nurse Joy. When will Pidgeotto get better?" Evelyn asked. "I'm guessing in another day or so. It's eye wasn't as bad as you thought, but it's wings need to be taken care of. Come back tomorrow at three and your Pokemon should be better!" Nurse Joy replied. "Great! Nurse Joy, I'd like you to heal my Pokemon, please." Roger said. "They look pretty healthy, but you can never be too sure!" "Sure! I'll get to it right away!" Joy smiled. After handing Roger's poke'balls back and returning his Vaporeon, Evelyn asked what the amount for Pidgeotto's care would be. "Oh, just $20. You seem like a nice trainer anyway, so I'm letting you go with a cheap price." Nurse Joy said. "Thank You Joy!" Evelyn said, happy to know that her Pidgeotto would be all right. As they left, Roger began to think about the Magikarp again. "Are you sure I shouldn't get it?" he asked Evelyn doubtfully." It seems like fair price to me!" "Huh. I don't think so. It's so lame and dumb! I think your other water Pokemon are even better. I like your Dratini the best though. After all, it does evolve into Dragonair, then into Dragonite! I mean, Dragonite is like, one of the coolest Pokemon ever!" Evelyn cried out. Then she paused. Roger was still thinking. "Oh, come on, give it up! Big deal if you can't get a Magicarp! I'll help you fish for one if you want to!" Evelyn shouted. "Really? But I left my fishing rod back at home! I can't get it back! The ship is leaving in 5 minutes!" Roger said. "Don't worry. I have some more money left in my backpack! I'll buy another one here for a cheap price!" Evelyn said, glad that Roger was changing his mind. "Hey, Thanks! I owe you one!" Roger grinned. Let's go!"
After selecting a good enough fishing pole, Evelyn and Roger got the numbers to their cabins and went their separate ways. But then it turned out that their rooms were across from each others, so from then on, it wouldn't be as much trouble to talk to each other. After a good night's sleep, Evelyn woke up to see the city Porta Vista out her window. Waking Bulbasaur, Evelyn brushed her teeth and did all that stuff you do in the morning. Roger knocked on her door to see if she was ready, and, after a tasty breakfast, bit of Pokemon battles and wandering around, the clock clicked to 3 'o clock. "Let's go check on my Pidgeotto!" Evelyn said to Roger. So, the two went to the Poke'mon Center. Joy checked in her patients' booklet for Evelyn's Pidgeotto. "Oh, here it is! Room 5B. I'll go get it out for you!" Joy said. As she left the room, Evelyn noticed that there were telephones lined against the wall. Each one was a picto-phone, a phone where you could see the person you were talking to. She decided to call Professor Oak and report her latest findings. "Hi Evelyn! How is your Bulbasaur?" Professor Oak asked when he saw who was calling. "Oh, it's very happy to be with me now. Do you want to see him?" Evelyn asked. "Oh no, that's all right. I'm just glad it's fine. How many Pokemon have you caught?" Oak said. "I've caught an Evee, a Charmander, a Squirtle, a Pidgeotto, a Clefairy, and of course, I have my Bulubasaur. That makes six Pokemon in all! My traveling companion, Roger, specializes in Water Pokemon. He has the coolest Vaporeon and the cutest Poiliwag and Dratini! His Seaking is interesting too. The designs on its sides are intriguing!" Evelyn replied. "Intersting. I was just about to call on you, but then, of course, I didn't know where you were. Heh heh. Anyway, when you have caught more than six Pokemon, It will automatically be sent to me for study. If you'd rather have that Pokemon on your team than another, just call me back and we'll switch. My grandson, Gary is behind you back at Vermilion, but he has already caught me a bunch of Pokemon!" Oak said. " Okay. I'll work on it." Evelyn said. After saying bye,she hung up. Just in time, Joy came out of the room. "Here is your Pidgeotto! It's in tip-top shape and is ready for a battle!" Joy said. "Of course, it's still a little sensitive to light, so give it these eye-drops once everyday for about a month." "Great! That sounds pretty good. Bye!" Evelyn said. After leaving the Poke'Center, a voice was heard over the loudspeaker. "Attention all Pokemon Trainers. The ship will be leaving port in a half hour back to Vermilion City. Please leave the boat if you wish to stay at Porta Vista. Have a nice day." The voice said. "Well, I guess we better leave!" Roger said to Evelyn. "Yeah, after Porta Vista, I can get to Celadon City for a Rainbow Badge!" Evelyn declared. "I can look for Pokemon is Porta Vista, too. Let's hurry and go!" Roger said. "It's a deal. Let's leave." Evelyn cheerfully said. Her journey was turning out to be a great Pokemon adventure! TO BE CONTINUED In Chapter 10, Arriving at Porta Vista, Evelyn again faces a new challenge, and Roger gets mixed up in a Team Rocket deal. What will they do next?
