Fan Fiction: Legendary Moltres

Submitted by Chansey7

CHAPTER THREE

“Don’t you know that’s only a legend?” Ash asked Craig.

“Only a legend? Is that what that jerk Jimmy told you?”

“Hey!” Ash began.

Craig chuckled. “Only a legend? Ha! If it is fake, then it’s the most dangerous fake legend there is!” Craig laughed out of fear.

“I-I’m sorry I made you lose your Moltres,” Ash said, ashamed.

“Don’t worry, it wasn’t your fault. You were just trying to win. That was a wimpy Moltres anyway to have flown away like that.”

Ash left the gym. Even though the volcano made it extremely hot in the town of Torch, Ash felt cold. A shiver went down his spine as he walked back to the motel. Pikachu shuddered. He entered the motel quietly, just in case Misty and Brock had went to sleep. They had. He searched for a bed to sleep on, realizing that Misty was taking up one of the two beds, and Brock the other. He ended up sleeping on the couch and as he dozed off to sleep he forgot all about the escaped Moltres.

Ash and his friends awoke to quite a panic down on the streets. They went outside to investigate. People were rushing around yelling and screaming, and packing their belongings. Misty tried to ask several people what was wrong but they just dismissed her and kept on rushing around. “Rush hour?” Brock asked. Ash shrugged and they decided to walk to the Pokemon mart to buy the local newspaper. There were three different newspapers from three different cities. The one from Torch read: “ESCAPED MOLTRES CAUSES TERROR ACROSS THE LAND”. The one from Saffron City read: “FIRE DROPPING BIRD SIGHTED NEAR TORCH”. The one from Fuchsia City was the most detailed, with a picture of the damage already done. The headline read: “MOLTRES ON THE RUN-CAUSING MORE THAN SUMMER HEAT”.

“Oh my gosh!” Misty exclaimed.

“We’d better get out of here quick!” Ash said.

“But what about all these people? We can’t just leave them here,” Brock said calmly.

“First, I think we should travel to the cities who haven’t heard…we’d better spread the news!” Ash said. Ash let Brock use Pidgeotto to fly. Misty used a Spearow, and Ash used Charizard. They flew first to Pallet Town, to warn Professor Oak and to get his advice. When they landed in the fields outside Pallet, they quickly rushed to Professor Oak’s Laboratory. He was there, observing Pokemon that Ash and Gary had caught, and performing new experiments. “Professor Oak! Have you heard about Moltres?” Ash asked, excited and panicked.

“No, I’m sorry Ash, what’s going on?”

“A Moltres was aroused from its home at Victory Road! Have you heard the legend? The newspapers say that it’s already causing chaos!” Misty gasped for air, exasperated from the excitement.

“Really? I hadn’t heard about that. I guess I’d better tell everyone else.” Professor Oak said.

“Do you have any advice? How can we stop it?” Ash asked.

“Well, first you’ll have to track it down, and capture it, but not in a Pokeball. You’ll have to capture it in a net.”

“Why not a Pokeball?” Brock asked.

“The Moltres is so angry that anyone has seen it, captured it, or forced it out of its home, that it won’t stay in a Pokeball. Anyway, then you will have to bring it back to Torch where you will drop it inside the volcano. Then you must hope that it erupts.”

“That’s impossible! The volcano hasn’t erupted for years!” Misty said.

“I know, but there is no other way. Do you know how it escaped?”

“I went to the unofficial gym of Torch where this kid had a Moltres. Pikachu used Thundershock, and the Moltres flew out the window!” Ash explained. Misty and Brock stared at him. They didn’t know that Ash had gone to the unofficial gym the night before.

Professor Oak nodded. “That kid shouldn’t have captured the Moltres…anytime he let it out of the Pokeball it could have escaped.”

“So it isn’t my fault?” Ash asked.

“No, of course not Ash. Now you kids better run along if you want to save the world,” Professor Oak said with a smile.

“I’m ready to save the world,” Brock said. The other two agreed…even Pikachu.

“Pika Pika Chu!” It giggled. So they set off. It would take them a while to track down the giant fire bird, but with their trusty flying Pokemon, they would surely bring it down. Ash hopped on Charizard and leaned forward to whisper in its ear.

“Don’t let me down Charizard, after you finally decided to obey me. If you want to save the world and become famous, you’re going to have to listen up. Now go find that Moltres!”

Charizard roared “Charizard!” before taking off to the sky. Misty and Brock struggled to stay up as high as Ash and Charizard, but once the tiny birds gained altitude, it was easy for them to let the thermals in the air lift them up. Charizard twirled in the air, and dove up and down to make the ride more exciting and fun, still, everyone had to have their mind on their mission.

After four hours of non-stop flying, they landed down in Cerulean City. They slept for an hour on their Pokemon near the edge of the city, and then took off again leaving the beautiful city behind. Around 8:00pm it began to get dark. The sun had just set, a wonderful sight, and there was just enough light from the moon to find their way. This would be the easiest part of their journey, because it would be easy to spot Moltres’s fire in the dark. The air got cooler, and Misty who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts was freezing. As the night wore on, it got windy, and Ash gave his jacket to Misty so she wouldn’t catch a cold. They passed over Celedon City around midnight where they stopped to rest again. There was an old warehouse about a mile west of the actual city, so they decided to camp out behind it for about two hours. “I’m so tired, I can’t sleep,” Ash whispered.

“Same here,” Brock said. Misty just shivered. Pikachu was forced to stay in a Pokeball during the flying so that it would not fall off. Ash opened the Pokeball and Pikachu plopped out, confused as to where it was.

“We’re all the way in Celedon City now, Pikachu,” Brock said.

“Chu!” Pikachu exclaimed. Misty reached out to pet Pikachu for Pikachu was nice and warm. “Pikachu,” Pikachu cried because Misty’s hand was surprising cold.

“I know Pikachu, I’m freezing,” Misty said. After five minutes had past, they were all sleeping except Pikachu, who decided to curl up next to Misty and rest. It was still dark out at 2:00am when they woke up. Pikachu demanded to ride on Charizard with Ash, who strongly disagreed but let Pikachu anyway. Charizard flew as fast as he could, but he was just so tired that his wings drooped and he glided along effortlessly. There were mountains in the distance, only the peaks could be seen through the thick morning mist. Near the mountains around 3:30 they noticed an orange glow to the mist.

“It must be Moltres,” Ash said quietly to Charizard and Pikachu. Soon Moltres could be seen in detail so Ash ordered Charizard to use Flame-thrower. Charizard let out a stream of fire but Moltres dodged it easily, and swooped overhead. Brock and Misty were too far behind to see the action. Suddenly right over the dangerous cliffs of the mountains, Moltres dove down, knocking Pikachu off his perch upon Charizard, down to the cliffs below. “Pikachu!!!!!!!” Ash screamed. Pikachu’s voice could be heard crying all the way down until it was only a tiny murmur, and then nothing at all.
