Fan Fiction: Legendary Moltres Submitted by Chansey7 CHAPTER SIX Ash and Misty walked down the side of the mountain until Charizard was ready. Misty waited at the foot of the mountain, about a mile away from the volcano. Charizard flew Ash halfway up the volcano…Ash would have to climb the rest of the way. Charizard flew about fifty yards from the volcano and waited next to a large rock at the edge of the forest. Ash reached up to grab another hold on the treacherous volcano climb, and heaved himself onto a flat platform, the backpack swinging at his shoulders. Charizard had argued with him about this…it was willing to drop the Electrodes itself, but Ash had insisted on doing it because he didn’t want Charizard to get hurt. Everyone was amazed that a trainer would risk his life for his Pokemon. It was 11:45 when Ash grabbed the last hold, a platform 10 feet below the opening of the volcano. One by one he threw the Electrodes in, each yelling as it fell towards the steaming hot lava. Meanwhile, Jessie and James crept up behind Charizard, “revenge” written all over their faces. “That brat spoiled our plans for making money off of that Slowbro’s shell,” James said. “He also stole Pikachu back when we were so close to having it captured,” Jessie smiled. “Now we’re going to mess up his plans!” she sneered. They crawled behind the rock next to Charizard, and pushed it with all their strength. It rolled slowly onto Charizard’s wing and tail, pinning it to the ground helplessly. “Charizard!” it screamed, but nobody could hear. Jessie and James laughed evilly before creeping back into the woods. Ash threw the last Electrode into the volcano’s opening. He took several deep breaths and closed his eyes. “SELF-DESTRUCT!” he shouted. There was silence. More silence. “BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!” Ash didn’t have time to think! There was a giant explosion within the volcano that propelled him through the air. “Charizard!” he yelled before being knocked unconscious from a flying rock. Misty watched Ash, her heart pounding inside her. Suddenly, she knew. Something was wrong. Charizard wasn’t coming. “Rapidash, run faster then you’ve every run before!” she screamed as Rapidash began running. Rapidash had a mile to cover in a matter of a minute or less. The giant horse-like creature leaped over logs and debris from the explosion, towards the lava that was beginning to seep over the top of rim of the volcano. Misty watched Ash plummet toward the ground only seconds ahead of them. “Jump!” Misty commanded. Rapidash thundered across the dusty ground, reared up on its hind legs and leaped. Its fiery mane flowed out behind it as Misty held out her arms. Ash landed with a hard “thud” on Rapidash’s back. He started to bounce of the back of Rapidash as it turned sharply away from the flowing lava but Misty grabbed his hand and pulled him back up. The lava was only halfway down the volcano when they reached the mountain. Rapidash slowed its pace to a trot. Ash leaned against Misty’s back unconscious. She steered Rapidash up the mountain to the cave where everyone was waiting. “Stand back!” Brock yelled, “let them get through!” Pikachu lay in Brocks arms shaking its head with worry. Misty jumped off Rapidash and lifted Ash to the ground. She and Brock were standing over him when he woke up. The first thing he could think of was, “Did it work? Did the volcano erupt?” “Yes Ash, it erupted,” Brock said. He helped Ash sit up, and they watched the red and orange lava slowly consume the little town of Torch. The crowd closed in on them, once again, but this time, they didn’t question, they cheered. They reached down and muffled Ash’s hair, and pinched Misty’s arm. Misty managed to drag Ash, who was injured badly, out of the crowd, leaving Brock and Pikachu to put up with the people’s yelling. Ash stood up to look at Misty. “You saved my life you know,” Ash said softly. “No, Ash, you saved me. I learned a lot from you on this journey, and we still have a ways to go. I learned that if I don’t have anything nice to say, to not say it at all. I’m the one who should be thanking you, I’m the one who should be ashamed for ever doubting you.” Misty couldn’t think of any more to say. Just then Brock and Pikachu escaped from the crowd. Brock knew that Ash wasn’t feeling well, but he couldn’t keep himself from teasing. “Oooo…Ash and Misty are in love.” He laughed. Ash opened his mouth to yell at Brock, but not a word came out. Instead he turned to Misty and gave her a hug. “Thanks,” he whispered. The people then realized that their heroes had escaped from their grasp, and went to see what Ash had to say. A cameraman rushed in front of them to take a picture. Pikachu perched on Ash’s shoulder, and Brock stood to the side. Ash wrapped his arm around Misty’s shoulder, and held out his hand. He slowly raised two fingers signaling success? Peace? That’s for you to decide. There was a flash, as the picture was taken, a picture that Ash would always keep with him. Ash knew that Professor Oak was wrong, and the legend had been exaggerated. He hadn’t saved the world. But he had saved 190 people from being roasted alive. He knew though, as the lava closed up the opening of the mountain, sealing Moltres inside, he would have another chance to catch it, he, Ash Ketchum would catch, Legendary Moltres.
