Fan Fiction: A Day in the Life of Nurse Joy

Submitted by Steven Blair

A poke’mon trainer with an Oddish cradled in his arms bounded up the steps of the Celadon City Poke’mon Center. "My…Oddish…burnt…badly," he said, very tired.

"Ok, we’ll heal him," said Nurse Joy, "I need a stretcher in here, stat!" Two Chanseys in nurse’s uniforms rolled in a stretcher and gently lifted the hurt Oddish onto it. They then rolled it back into the critical condition room and the light clicked on with a chime.

"Ring, Ring!" went the viewphone.

"Celadon city Poke’mon Center, Can I help you?"

"Yes, in fact, you can" answered a shadowy figure on the other line. Suddenly two rockets crashed through the glass ceiling, wielding their two poke’mon, Raticate and Arbok.

"Chaaaaaarbok!" hissed the snake.

"Rrrrrrrrraticcte!’ screeched the rat.

"Start grabbing the poke’balls with rare poke’mon, I’ll distract these two!" yelled a Rocket, dumbly.

"I know, I know!" answered the other. Then they began shuffling all the poke’balls into bags. Nurse Joy and the trainer were helpless. They had filled the bags.

"See you later, suckers!" yelled a Rocket. Then a poke’mon burst through the emergency room doors, emitting odor from the spore on it’s head!

"Glooooooom!" it shouted.

"You evolved into Gloom" yelled the happy trainer, "Now focus your spores on the Rockets, and blast em’ away!"

"Gloom!" it said, agreeing, "GLOOM!!!!!!" It blasted all it’s spores on the Rockets, sending them out of there, and causing the poke’balls to fall and open. Suddenly a golden bird shot out of a poke’ball, pointed towards the sky. It was dropping golden, magical dust and repairing the sunroof. The last image anyone saw was it flying towards the horizon.

"You did it Gloom!" yelled the excited trainer.

"Gloom!" It yelled.

"Good job!" said Nurse Joy, "You can really handle your poke’mon!"

"Thanks!" he said, and left to continue his poke’mon journey.

"I wish I could handle my poke’mon like that" thought Joy.

An email message flashed on the secreen, from…the Poke’mon League!

"What would they want with me" she wondered. she clicked on the message.

"Dear Joy,

After much deliberation, we have decided to make you the Official Poke’mon League Poke’mon Inspector."

"Me?! They picked…me?!" exclaimed Joy. Her jubilation was quickly turned surprise as Officer Jenny burst through the front doors.

"We need you down at the Poke’mon Factory!" exclaimed Jenny, "There was an explosion in one of the side offices! Bring a lot of Super Potions!" Joy hopped on the back of Jenny’s bike, carrying all the Super Potions she could. When they got there, Joy was shocked. At least a dozen Sandshrews lay on their stomachs. About four Rattatas were strewn about the ground. A pair of Mr. Mimes, tangled in the bushes. There were many more.

"Ok, lets get to work!" yelled Joy, "Spray as many as you can!" A lot of poke’mon were fine, but some were still there. Just then, a surprised Mushboom wandered out of the bushes.

"Mushboom! Mush! Mush!" it cried.

"Mushbom, will you help us save these poke’mon?" asked Joy. The Mushbom nodded it’s small head.

"Mush…BOOM!" it yelled, and released it’s healing spores onto the poke’mon. The poke’mon quickly were back to normal. Joy gave the Mushboom a jar of poke’mon food as a reward. Just as they were leaving, Joy thought she heard something. She turned around to stop a single Paras trapped under a piece of concrete.

"Pa-ras" it said weakly.

"Go! Machoke" yelled a trainer, and the Machoke picked up the concrete and threw it. Nurse Joy picked the poke’mon into her arms.

"This Paras is badly hurt!" said Joy, "We need to get it to the Center, quickly!" She jumped on the bike and Jenny took off. They reached the center in a matter of minutes, and quickly rolled the Paras into critical condition.

"The Paras didn’t look to well" said joy, sadly.

"I know" answered the assistant. The light clicked off.

"That could mean it’s gone or it’s fine." said Joy. The Chanseys rolled out a cart…with an energetic Paras on it!

"Paras!" it shouted, happily.

"Yeah!" said Joy, "Now we can release you into the wild!" The Paras shook it’s head, and then began to change.

"Parasect!" cried the new Parasect.

"It…evolved!" Joy said, as the Paras jumped into her arms, "You’re staying with me then!" she said happily.
